Located within a prominent early 20th-century building in Liverpool city centre, this project involves the sensitive refurbishment and extension of an existing retail property to create a new hotel destination. The Portland stone, neo-classical building forms part of the wider Church Street townscape, contributing to one of the city’s primary commercial streets.
The proposals seek to retain and enhance the character of the building while adapting it for contemporary hospitality use. A carefully integrated three-storey rooftop extension is introduced, conceived as a secondary addition that sits comfortably within the existing architectural composition, allowing the historic façade to remain the primary expression of the building.
The wider scheme reimagines the internal layout to accommodate hotel uses, bringing the building back into active use following a period of underutilisation. The project balances heritage sensitivity with modern requirements, supporting the continued evolution of Liverpool’s city centre as a vibrant visitor destination.
