Sandaig Croft

We recently supported a small-scale rural planning application for a private dwelling at Sandaig, on the north side of Loch Nevis, within the remote Knoydart peninsula. The project centres on the design of a modest, off-grid home, carefully positioned within the landscape to sit quietly below the line of the existing road, taking advantage of a natural plateau while opening out to long views across the water.

The architectural approach draws from the simplicity and clarity of traditional Highland croft buildings, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. A single, elongated form with a pitched roof establishes a calm, legible presence, aligned with the contours of the land and shaped by the practical realities of climate and exposure. Internally, the layout follows a familiar, efficient logic, with a central entrance and living spaces oriented towards the landscape.
