Cameron Toll Public Consultation – Listening, Testing, Evolving

We recently took part in the second public consultation event for the evolving Cameron Toll masterplan, engaging with the local community to share how the proposals have developed and to hear directly from those who know the place best.

The session marked an important milestone in the process. Building on the first round of consultation, the updated proposals reflect a careful response to the feedback received, particularly around movement, scale, public space and the balance of uses. There is a clear ambition to transform Cameron Toll into a more open, connected and outward-looking neighbourhood centre, while retaining its role as a valued local destination.

Throughout the day, conversations focused on how the site can better integrate with its surroundings, improving pedestrian and cycle connections, strengthening links to Inch Park, and creating a more legible and welcoming environment. The idea of “stitching” the site back into the wider urban fabric resonated strongly, moving away from its current inward-facing condition towards something more permeable and civic in nature.

There was also positive engagement around the proposed mix of uses. Retaining and enhancing the existing retail offer remains central, supported by new homes, leisure and public spaces that bring activity across the day and into the evening. This layered approach is key to creating a place that feels active, safe and relevant over the long term.

For us, these events are less about presenting fixed ideas and more about testing and refining the direction of travel. The feedback gathered will now inform the next stage of design as the project moves towards planning.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to come along, share their views and contribute to shaping the future of Cameron Toll.
